Drew : a Dialogical Reasoning Web Tool

چکیده
This paper presents the tool developed and used during the first year of the European IST project SCALE (InternetBased intelligent tool for Supporting Collaborative Argumentation and Learning). This tool allows argumentative interactions across internet that can be used in pedagogical situations. In adjunction to regular collaborative tools (chat, white board and text editor), a specific collaborative graph editor was designed according to Toulmin’s representation of argumentative debate. All the interactions are recorded in structured trace files that can be further studied by the cogniticians and educationalist partners of the project and can be used as examples for teacher training in argumentation. The whole architecture of the system relies on a client-server architecture and uses open Internet protocol technology (XML and Java language). The tool is used via a regular browser, doesn’t need any software installation on the client side and has a multi language interface. This modular architecture also enables easy integration of new interactive modules.

Communication in a web-based conferencing system: the quality of computer-mediated interactions
Time constraints and teaching in crowded classrooms restrict in-depth dialogical interaction in teaching and learning. Electronic conferencing systems, however, have the potential to foster online discussions beyond class time. Case-based instruction also constitutes a promising approach in fostering learners’ participation and reflection. The purpose of this study was to investigate (a) the ex...
متن کاملUsing Contextual Graphs for Supporting Qualitative Simulation Explanation
We proposed in a previous research an explanatory dialogical agentbased tool for explaining a qualitative simulation algorithm. The main limitation of an agent in our explanatory system was its incapacity to adapt itself to a changing context. The main reason concerns the agent’s inability to share and understand, through its cognitive component, new contextual information not directly accessib...
متن کاملIntegrating Psychological Behaviors in the Rational Process of Conversational Assistant Agents
In this paper we describe a framework dedicated to studies and experimentations upon the nature of the relationships between the rational reasoning process of an artificial agent and its psychological counterpart, namely its behavioral reasoning process. This study is focused on the domain of Conversational Assistant Agents, which are software tools providing various kinds of assistance to peop...
متن کاملOntology Translation on the Semantic Web
Ontologies are a crucial tool for formally specifying the vocabulary and relationship of concepts used on the Semantic Web. In order to share information, agents that use different vocabularies must be able to translate data from one ontological framework to another. Ontology translation is required when translating datasets, generating ontology extensions, and querying through different ontolo...
متن کاملTechnology for Teaching and Learning: Moodle as a Tool for Higher Education
Many Canadian Educational Psychology classes currently emphasize and model constructivist teaching practices in addition to integrating the notion of connectivity and Web 2.0 into educational theory. This study examines ‘Moodle’ as a technological tool to further enhance participation and performance in addition to the regularly used ‘semiotic tools’ and social-dialogical activities found in a ...
